In 1989, Mini celebrated its 30th Birthday with the Mini Thirty, a limited run of 3,000 cars. To set it apart from the standard Mini Mayfair, it was adorned with 30th anniversary badges, unique trim-half leather seats, along with some extra equipment. Some of these special features included an option of Mini 30 crests, servo assisted front brakes, body-colored arches, sills, wings, and a boot light!
Ed’s Mini story: For as long as I can remember, I have preferred driving small cars. My first car was a Ford Fiesta. Our first family car was a 2002 MINI Cooper S. We wanted to experience the original Mini.
We searched eBay for months. A maroon Mini showed up listed in Texas. We did not know it was a special edition – we just loved the color. The owner was ex-military that had the car brought over from England when he came back to the states. After buying the Mini, the owner gave us every bit of paperwork for this car, including the original bill of sale.
This car needed a full restoration. The kids and I took the whole car apart down to the metal. We stored the parts at the house. Across the Pond Restoration restored the metal for the car. We ordered Heritage body panels and many other new parts.
While restoring the car we learned that this was a 30th anniversary Mini.
We’ve had a lot of fun taking the car to events and it brings smiles to everyone seeing us drive by.
