“Mission creep” is defined as the expansion of a project or mission beyond its original goals. Consider the car you see here.
After Dan received this 1975 2002 he drove is all the time, then things began to change. First came 15-inch Superlite wheels hen Schnitzer-style fenders and front air dam. An Ireland Engineering (IE) hood and rear spoiler, then E46 M3 Steel Gray metallic paint.
To the stock M10 engine he fitted strengthened, and custom parts including a Megasquirt fuel injection and Garrett GT 2860RS turbocharger. Resulting in 270 bhp and 290 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Then came an E28 Getrag 260 5-speed transmission, an E30 drive line and Wilwood brake discs front/rear.
The suspension includes IE’s fully adjustable suspension. Steering’s upgraded with E21 rack-and-pinion with custom arms. The interior remains relatively stock.
Dan’s original goal was to build a fun 2002 he could enjoy in the mountains. After 16 Years “my dreams are pretty much complete,” Dan says. “I’ve never driven anything like it, yet it still feels like a 2002.”
