1973 BMW 2002 #2587861
Andres Martinez (since 2007)
Key Biscayne, Florida
When longtime enthusiast and racer Andres Martinez saw this 2002 on the cover of Roundel magazine, he fell in love at first sight with its beautifully restored bodywork and perfect interior.
He was also struck by the fact that it had been assembled in just three days by its previous owner, Gary Bossert, and two friends, Ben Thongsai and Filippo Morelli. Martinez became obsessed with this 2002, just like Bossert had been 15 years earlier. “I was impressed with the level of quality with which this crew had finished the job,” Martinez says. “You would think the work had been performed by the BMW factory itself.”
Martinez showed the article to his wife and promised her that they’d own that jewel of a car some day. When she passed away a few months later, he put the magazine away. Even with a forty car collection, including 13 BMWs, Andres remembered his promise.
In 2007, after several failed attempts to purchase the car, the owner called Martinez out of the blue. “He needed space in his garage because he’d bought a rare old BMW race car. He’d decided to sell the ‘Green Agave,’ but would sell only to me, because he knew how meticulously I care for the cars in my collection.”
