1973 BMW 2002 #2585811
October 20, 1972
Bruce Hazard (since 1972)
Bruce Hazard’s BMW journey began when he was stationed in Germany with the US Army. His Volkswagen wasn’t cutting it on the autobahn, so he traded it for a new BMW 2002, attracted by the price and spacious cockpit. “I knew nothing about BMW. It was just utilitarian. Once I got it, I fell in love with its performance. It was roomy, and I was able to travel with friends all over Europe. That endeared me to it early on.”
In 1975, Hazard transferred to Colorado and joined the BMW CCA. Bruce attended his first club meeting in 1976, eventually serving as Club President for several years, and has been active ever since.
In 1990, after 17 years and 330,000 miles, the car was parked and sat until 2014. That year, a complete restoration was begun. Hazard did most of the work himself, with advice from friends. Its current condition is as it was when Hazard took delivery of the car in 1972. It’s US-spec with cloth seats being the only non-US spec option.
This car is no trailer queen. Bruce continues to drive and enjoy it as he did when the car was new. “Every time I drive this car, it still attracts a lot of attention. That’s pretty cool.”
