Black (originally Fjord)
Lisa (since 2014)
At a glance, it looks like an exceptionally well-preserved stock 2002. Look more closely, however, and you’ll see the countless details that distinguish this particular 2002, and which justify its name, Tesoro…Italian for “treasure.”
For the first 40 years of its life, the car hadn’t been treasured much at all. 2002 #2585434 had been a San Francisco Bay Area car all its life. When a tow-truck driver backed into the car, it crushed the 2002’s fragile nose. The damage prompted a bare-metal restoration by 2002GarageWerks in Ontario, California that would turn this ordinary 2002 into something approaching perfection.
The Black paint offers a striking foil to a subtle mix of vintage and modern updates. Lisa enlisted Franzini Brothers in San Rafael to redo the 2002’s interior to her own design. Franzini upholstered a pair of E21 Recaro front sport seats, an E24 6 Series rear seat, and the door panels in black leather (not vinyl!) with Alcantara inserts.
The performance is certainly up to modern standards. 2002GarageWerks rebuilt the engine from top to bottom. A set of 15 x 7.0-inch BBS RM two-piece wheels have been refinished with black centers whose spoke edges are polished to match the rims.
