Chris Williams (since 1985)
Chris Williams had always liked his dad’s 2002, His father, Dr. Jim Williams DDS, had moved up to a new Lincoln Town Car, but he still had the BMW. “It was sitting in the garage, and I just started working on it, Chris says. “One day, my dad said, ‘That’s your car now.’”
After Dr. Williams used his Agave green 2002 as a daily driver for 39,000 miles and 13 years, including 13 Pennsylvania winters, the car had the usual rust issues.
Chris drove the car through high school and college and later had it repainted.
Chris and his brother Jim went to the 1996 Oktoberfest in Tysons Corner, VA where they saw a modified 2002 of Jeff and Barb Taylor. Chris decided he wanted this for his car.
Over the next 20 years, the car received a host of performance-enhancing modifications. A rebuilt engine with a 2.3-liter crankshaft, S14 connecting rods, JE pistons, a ported cylinder head with Alpina valves, and a Schrick 328 cam. Chris installed an Ireland header, stainless-steel exhaust, Borla XR1 muffler, modified 320i oil pan with remote filter, dual Sebtrab oil coolers, Ireland racing clutch, Jim Blanton-built 4-speed transmission. 3.91 limited slip differential. Suspension Techniques anti-roll bars, 7 Series front brake calipers, Ireland rear disc conversion, Ireland front spoiler, and Bosch driving lights.
