Since the 1950s, BMW has built Police/Authority motorcycles. BMW Authority motorcycles are designed to deliver the highest levels of performance, safety, and technology in the industry, so it is no wonder that BMW motorcycles are used by law enforcement agencies in over 150 countries. BMW is the largest provider of authority motorcycles in the world with over 80,000 units in service.
In the US, over 550 agencies have used or currently use BMW motorcycles in their fleets. The durability of BMW motorcycles means that many units serve multiple departments throughout their life. The three largest operators of BMW authority motorcycles in the US include the California Highway Patrol, The Los Angeles Police Department, and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
The US Rider Academy at the BMW Performance Center offers a 2-Day Authority School for those who want to take their riding skills to the next level. The Authority School uses the same R 1250 RT-P motorcycles in service with Police departments around the world. BMW also offers special training to police agency technicians on the routine maintenance and general service of their police motorcycles.
This R 1250 RT-P is decorated with BMW Riders Academy graphics and rides on Continental tires.
BMW Motorcycle: A Century of Innovation exhibition is currently on display at The Ultimate Driving Museum through January 20, 2024. From a 1926 BMW R 32 to a 2023 BMW R 18 100th Anniversary edition are part of the 56 BMW motorcycles and five BMW motorcycle powered vehicles, like the Isetta 300, 600, and Farmobil are all part of the exhibition.
